TB surveillance & IR training provided for Monitoring & Evaluation focal points

An in-person training to strengthen TB surveillance was held in Addis Ababa focused on creating a better understanding of TB surveillance data and systems’ availability, quality, and use, including electronic data systems. The Secretariat of the Southern and East African Regional Network for TB Control (SEARN-TB) organized the training workshop with the support of the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), The German Federal Ministry of Health, the Robert Koch Institute, and the Global TB Program of WHO.

The TB Surveillance training was attended by focal persons for Monitoring and Evaluation from 21 National TB Programs, colleagues from Africa CDC, AHRI, and the WHO regional office.

During the workshop, the key challenges and knowledge gaps of the TB programs were identified to define the operational and implementation research priorities. The information will serve as a basis for the development and/or revision of the National TB research agendas of SEARN-TB member countries based on the Global Action Framework for TB research. The training, provided for M&E focal points in the SEARN-TB region, was held from October 23-26, 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
